Have Feelings: Five Poems

Boats and carts can enter Luoyang
In the middle of the nation, everyone can easily pay their taxes and tributes.
Daily hear about stale sorghum that is beginning to rot
Cold, radiant and green spring finds too many foodstuffs in storage with the people hungry.

Do not spend our strength and money on just one city
Issue decrees to renew our whole country.
Concentrate instead on thrift and virtue
Kings and officials are able to turn away from theft and wickedness.

Notes:

[In 763 AD, the Chinese capital moved from Chang’an in the west, east to Luoyang.]
