Kuizhou Songs: Ten Four-Line Poems

蘷 州: 十 绝 句
中 巴 之 东 巴 东 山
江 水 开 辟 流 其 间。
白 帝 高 为 三 峡 镇
瞿 塘 险 过 白 牢 关。

Kui Zhou : Shi Jue Ju

Zhong ba zhi dong ba dong shan
Jiang shui kai pi liu qi jian.
Bai di gao wei san xia zhen
Qu tang xian guo bai lao guan.

 

Kuizhou Songs: Ten Four-Line Poems

Inside eastern Chongqing, mountains to the east
Penetrating waters now flow between these mountains.
Baidi City towers over the gorges of San Xia
Qutang gorge a very dangerous strategic and defensive chokepoint.

 

Notes:

Kuizhou: Also known as Guizhou, a province in western China.

Baidi City:  Ancient fortress and temple on the northern shore of the Changjiang (Yanzi River) near Chongqing.

San Xia: The Three Gorges of the Changjiang. Qutang gorge is the first and narrowest of the three.
