Northern Windows

北 窗
云 开 见 山 雪
院 静 闻 松 风。
吏 去 曲 肱 卧
疑 非 尘 世 中。
Bei Chuang

Yun kai jian shan xue
Yuan jing wen song feng.
Li qu qu gong wo
Yi fei chen shi zhong.

Northern Windows

Clouds open up, see the mountain snows
Courtyard quiet and calm, hear pine trees in the wind.
Tax collectors move on, I lean back with arms behind my head
No doubt I am living beyond the insides of a society full of dust.

Notes:

Lu Yu recommended to the emperor that the peasant farmers in his region, by being so poor, should not be paying government taxes.  This would be too burdensome for them. So the emperor waived the taxes for one year.
