Go to the River, Near Mt. Yin, Send to Government Worker Cui the Younger
Springtime poplar and willow trees along the causeway
Recall this was the place I waited to meet old friends.
Every native tree and grass without worries
Prosper and decline by themselves with the seasons.
Mt. Yin calm, becoming wider and more distant
On the river, today missing my friends.
Not reaching the orchid pavilion to meet them
By myself, I need a partner to write some xi poems.
Notes:
Xi poetry: A sacrificial festival held at water’s edge in spring and autumn to drink to heaven and chase away evil spirits.
Mt. Yin: Yin mountains: Mountain range that forms the southern border of the Gobi Desert, and lies within the provinces of Hebei and Inner Mongolia.
