Xian Mountains: Gave a Farewell Dinner For a Fang Guan and Cui Zongzhi

All one’s life stand in between the noble and the mundane
Curtained carriages of high officials arrive with the sun.
Meeting them like the onset of spring greenery
High cloudy road to the capital clears and opens up.

Along the ancient road an ancestor’s shrine, villagers gawk at the noblemen’s attire
At the outskirts pavilion, their retinue anxious to ride to the government way station.
I hoped they could stay for several more days
Wait now for these two stars to come back again.

Notes:

Fang Guan: A high-level government official in the Imperial Document Library located in the capital. He was familiar with Meng’s poetry.

Cui Zongzhi: One of his drinking friends.
