High Above the Han River, Looking Into the Distance

汉 江 临 眺
楚 塞 三 湘 接
荆 门 九 派 通。
江 流 天 地 外
山 色 有 无 中。
郡 邑 浮 前 浦
波 澜 动 远 空。
襄 阳 好 风 日
留 醉 与 山 翁。

 

Han Jiang Lin Tiao

Chu sai san xiang jie
Jing men jiu pai tong.
Jiang liu tian di wai
Shan se you wu zhong.

Jun yi fu qian pu
Bo lan dong yuan kong
Xiang yang hao feng ri
Liu zui yu shan weng.

 

High Above the Han River, Looking Into the Distance

At the border region between Chu and Han, a confluence of three rivers
Near Jingmen Mountain, the Jiu River flows into the Han.
The river flows beyond Heaven and Earth
Mountain colors pale in comparison.

Prefecture cities appear to float at the water’s edge
River waves swell, move far into the distance.
Xiangyang city has a very nice view
I wish I could get drunk here just like Shan Wong.

 

Notes:

Han River:  Large river tributary to the Changjiang (Yangzi River) at the large city of Wuhan.

Xiangyang:  City on the Han River in northwest Hubei Province. Site of many historical and important battles.

Shan Wong: One of seven famous and gifted artist-scholars noted for their talent in music, painting and poetry.
