Lee Hoi-Chuen (李海泉 Lǐ Hǎiquán) was born on Feb. 4, 1901. He was Bruce Lee ‘s (李小龙 Lǐ Xiǎolóng) father and was a Hong Kong Cantonese opera (粤剧 Yuèjù ) singer and film actor. Lee Hoi-chuen and his wife, Grace Ho, were in San Francisco in 1940 when Bruce Lee was born; they were on a one-year U.S. tour with the Cantonese Opera Company.
Their other son Robert, Bruce’s younger brother was famous in Hong Kong during the 1960s as the lead singer and founder of a popular beat band The Thunderbirds. Lee Hoi-chuen died on Feb. 7, 1965, just a few days after his 64th birthday, and a week after the birth of his grandson, Brandon Lee. He was portrayed by Tony Leung Ka-fai in the 2010 film Bruce Lee, My Brother .
