Today let’s take a brief introduction of a famous Chinese movie named “Kung Fu Panda”.The story tells a lazy and gluttonous panda Po, a kung fu fanatic, is mistakenly identified as “Dragon Warrior” – a legendary kung fu master, and forced to deal with the evil snow leopard Tai Lung, who has just escaped from the prison. Hence Master Shifu has to face the biggest challenge in life – training the lazy, clumsy, overweight panda Po to be a renowned kung fu master in a limited time.

Every detail of the film is covered with Chinese symbols: scroll, Han costumes, bamboo hat, sword, monumental archway, temple, palace, etc. Even the grain on the chinaware are of typical Chinese characteristics. One remarkable point of the film is the background, filled with Chinese landscape only existing in freehand brushworks – the Xanadu with blooming flowers and falling petals, and the serene mountains surrounded by white clouds. It truly depicts a vivid swordsman world of typical Chinese flavor.

As revealed by the director Mark Osborne, the reason the film is filled with Chinese elements is that “I like China, and I hold full respect to Chinese culture.” Mark said that ever since young he has had a keen interest in Chinese culture, Chinese kung fu culture in particular. In the past 30 years he has been studying Chinese culture, and thinking about shooting a film about China. At last he decided to combine the panda – a Chinese national treasure – with profound kung fu culture. Hence comes out Kung Fu Panda.

功夫gōngfu:a kind of fighting styles that have developed over the centuries in China.
