Palace Lady Sent Out: Two Poems: No. 1

Leisurely played her exquisite jade and many-holed flute
From the Li Yuan, drunk while picking light-blue flowers.
For ten years she was living like in one dream
She arrived at the palace wearing a bi sha.

Notes:

Li Yuan:  The Pear Garden opera academy created by Emperor Xuanzong deep inside the palace. A place for musicians and dancers to learn and practice their craft.

Bi sha: An armband made of yarn that was coded to inform the palace guards how to direct the newly arrived young ladies into the palace area appropriate to their future duties.
